A design marathon for Design for the World

In May 2002, the second edition of the design contest 'El Maratón' had as its theme 'Design for the World'. Twenty teams of three young graphic designers worked 24 hours to produce an ad and banners for the new Design for the World website. The winners looked towards Mother Nature to find some ingenious designs that save lives.

The El Maratón event takes place within the 'Premios Laus' of Spanish graphic design association ADG-FAD, and is sponsored by Getty Images. The 20 design teams receive their brief at 10 AM, and then work during 24 hours in a common workspace, for the occasion equiped with 20 computers with the necessary software and access to Getty image libraries.

As during the first edition of El Maratón, the brief was to promote a social campaign or organisation: this year, the subject was Design for the World. The objective was to attract visitors to its new website, designed by Estudio Mariscal.

The winning proposal, selected by a jury including graphic designers, representatives of Getty Images and the director of Design for the World, will be used to promote the website during the second half of 2002.

The winning team (Natal Vallvé Bertran, Raimon Bragulat Martín and Marc Nebot Prat) received its prize during the Night of the Premios Laus.
