Medical waste disposal in developing countries

Health care waste disposal is a complex problem, especially in health systems with lack of resources. Through a new project in collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontičres, Design for the World wants to address a small part of it: the safe disposal of contaminated sharps in small health structures in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

A design marathon for Design for the World

In May 2002, the second edition of the design contest 'El Maratón' had as its theme 'Design for the World'. Twenty teams of three young graphic designers worked 24 hours to produce an ad and banners for the new Design for the World website. The winners looked towards Mother Nature to find some ingenious designs that save lives.

Refugee camp survey in Tanzania

During the month of June, volunteers from Design for the World have visited refugee camps in Tanzania to get first-hand information about the conditions in which refugees live, and to identify areas where design can help improve those conditions. Expo "Que Pinta la Sida" - approaching Aids prevention through humour

Design for the World, in collaboration with the cultural program of the 14th International Aids Conference, is hosting a small exposition of comics used to educate adolescents about Aids. The comics have been made by famous Spanish cartoonists, and are used by the Centre Jove d'Anticoncepció i Sexualitat to make young people think about Aids.
